About this Site

TechToon is a new kind of social comic strip and website about a tech-loving family and their friends (human, animal, and robotic). Currently we are publishing on a limited schedule during the development phase, but hope to increase that soon.
“Social comic strip”? What that means is that TechToon is not just a comic strip, but […]

High-def TV is disgusting

My Dad brought home a new high-def TV to review, and it is sweet! (It sucks that we don’t get to keep this stuff.) But my brother Marcus, the little dummy, popped in a high-def version of a DVD called Don’t Try This at Home - The Steve-O Video that he borrowed from a friend. Apparently it’s stunts by Jackass Steve-O that were too crude and gross to make it on the old MTV show cuz that show had “censors”. Unfortunately I was in the room when he started watching it.

That DVD is soooooooo gross. Imagine junior high boy humor (y’know, most of it focusing on bodily functions like farting, peeing and sex, not to mention plain old stupid stunts guaranteed to inflict bodily injury) put to real life by guys in their 20s. Yeah. It’s actually worse than that. If you can believe it.

Now imagine watching that on a high-def TV!! It’s like way more information than I need to know. It’s like actually being there when you really don’t want to be there! 8O … After seeing that DVD, I feel sorry for Steve-O’s girlfriend. I couldn’t even look him in the face. Ewwwwww!

Don’t you agree that some things don’t belong on HDTV? I think I’ll now reserve it for watching comedies, romances and animated movies!

Hey, I found this cool HDTV commercial. It kinda makes my point. :)

Google is getting to be spooky

My little brother is getting to be quite the paranoid hacker. Marcus figured Google was up to something fishy with its Google Maps Street View feature. Y’know what that is right? Google sent out a bunch of undercover spooks in vans with cameras and photographed all the streets in some cities (like San Francisco). The photos are part of the maps, so you find a spot on the map and then click to see photos of the street. Here’s the Ludlow house.

He is soooo paranoid!!! How can Google’s engineers figure out how to get more detail than what the normal Google Maps user sees? Us normals can only zoom down so far, but Marcus says that if you have Spy Spook privileges you can go down to room level. Watch this video that a couple guys did to see what I mean:

Back to Marcus. He somehow got access to the source code, something about using a wider range of NSA firewall configs. He admitted he was using Google Maps Streetview to look in on Paris Hilton’s Manhattan penthouse. (I’m surprised. He still claims girls are gross, but I know better!) He got caught and so now he’s in trouble with Mom and Dad, Google AND the NSA!

This has got me all paranoid now. Who’s spying on me with the top-secret version of Google Maps?! I’m keeping my window shades closed from now on. I need to keep more clothes on!!

End video game violence! Stop playing Wii!

Lots of parents are freaked out about how violent Grand Theft Auto 4 is. Hah! If you want to talk about violent video games, how about Wii?

I got a big gash on my face from playing Wii Tennis with Nia. She went for a lunging backhand and the remote smashed the side of my face. The Wii remote still has blood on it.

Yeah I know we should have had the plastic sleeves on them. But it still would have hurt. She swung that remote hard!

This happens so often that there’s even a website devoted to nothing but Wii injuries! WiiInjury.com. And check out this video of Wii accidents..

I bet no one gets really hurt playing Grand Theft Auto. :)

The horrors of cell phone dating

Technology sure can mess up your life. Like cell phones. Mine totally screwed up my plans for the school dance on Friday!

What happened is that I wanted to ask my friend Alex to the dance. But I’m kinda shy about stuff like that — even though Alex is just a friend — so I sent him a text message asking if he wanted to go. That’s way easier than asking F2F in case you get turned down. It doesn’t feel so bad. But I’ve got this fancy next-gen phone that my dad brought home to review. And I like don’t really know how to use it that well.

So what do I do but text the wrong person by accident! Turns out that my older friend Zander got the message and he thinks I asked him out. And he texted back and said yes!

Me going out with an older guy. Yikes! Well I guess I have to go huh? But I’ve got to keep it secret from my parents. I hope Zander doesn’t think it’s a “date”. This is bad at so many levels. But I want to go to the dance.

Have you ever done something tech-stupid like that?

Sorry Alex!! Would you have said yes? :)

I <3 scary movies

Some of my friends think I’m weird because I love going to really scary movies. The best movies make the hairs on my arm stand up during the scariest parts.

Did you know you can see trailers of movies coming out soon on this website: ComingSoon.net. There are some sick summer movies coming!

The Happening looks good. I gotta see that one. That’s just the right amount of scary. And it stars Mark Wahlberg. I can deal with that!

There’s a new Batman movie with Heath Ledger who died. The Dark Knight. That’ll be weird seeing him on screen. I wonder if it will be scary enough for me.

Then there’s this movie called Frontiers, which looks truly scary. It’s probably too much though. Jeez, the trailer is sick. I mean the bad type of sick, like gross. That’s probably too much even for me. Do you think it would be worth spending ten bucks just to be grossed out?

What movies should I go see this summer so I can get scared? :)
