About TechToon

TechToon is a new kind of social comic strip and website about a tech-loving family and their friends (human, animal, and robotic). Currently we are publishing on a limited schedule during the development phase, but hope to increase that soon.

“Social comic strip”? What that means is that TechToon is not just a comic strip, but also an online community that YOU can be part of. Post a comment. Write a blog item. Post a sketch. Interact and talk with the characters (they answer e-mail) here or on social networks like Facebook and Twitter.

Even better, BECOME A CHARACTER YOURSELF! We routinely pick out TechToon fans to become comic characters. Use your imagination to describe an interesting character, and we may incorporate it into the strip.

In fact, many existing TechToon characters are real people. The comic characters were drawn based on them. When Adriana or Zander post a comment or a blog entry, for example, it’s from them, not TechToon’s cartoonists!

While many of the ideas and jokes in TechToon will come from its creators, we don’t want to hog the spotlight. If you send us your ideas for future strips, if we use your idea you’ll get credit on the strip. Did something funny happen to you or your friends that would make a good comic? Tell us about it!

TechToon’s creators

Steve Kearsley, cartoonist/illustrator

When Steve K was 12, a neighbor introduced him to the world of technology — building electronics with Radio Shack circuits, diodes and transformers — starting a lifelong habit as a technology junkie. “The idea behind techGRL is to have fun and entertain with technology,” Steve says. “This comic strip is about characters that use technology, it’s about YOU. We use fun to empower YOU with technology.” Steve’s work includes multimedia design, illustration, web interaction, and conceptual development for computer games. Steve holds a masters degree in multimedia from California State University and splits his time between the Los Angeles coast and the San Francisco Bay Area.

Steve Outing, writer/web guy

Steve O is a journalist, media columnist, and online media expert and pioneer who has helped media companies make the transition to publishing on the Internet. Among his specialties are grassroots journalism and social media. TechToon is Steve’s chance to combine a lifelong love of comics with his enthusiasm for the Internet. Steve and his wife live in Boulder, Colorado, with their two daughters, ages 10 and 15.
